The archaeological ruins of Machu Picchu are located
on the Eastern slope of the Vilcanota mountain range
at 2400m, at 112 km Northwest of the Cusco.
Transfer first thing in the morning to the train
station at Poroy, just 15 minutes outside of
town.
The train route will bring us past Ollantaytambo and
through multiple microclimates on our way into the
jungle and to Aguas Calientes.
The ride from Cusco to Aguas Calientes lasts for
approx 3,30 hrs. The continuous train tracks run
parallel to the Urubamba River and they will lead us
on an amazing journey. On the opposing mountain, you
can see an imposing granite rock mountain.
Arrival to the Aguas Calientes train station. We
will immediately need to go to go to the place where
the minibuses are taking passengers up the final 8
km to the ruins of Machu Picchu. The bus ride will
last for about 30 minutes.
Pass through the control.
The guided tour of the archaeological ruins of Machu
Picchu begins down a path that leads from the bus
station. Entering through a series of rooms that is
surrounded by the peripheral wall, we will later use
a platform for access to the agricultural sector
which is surrounded by a succession of platform of
different types and dimensions. In all we will also
get a chance to see some of the more important
archaeological elements in the ancient Inca city:
main entrance to the Temple of the Sun, the
Intiwatana, group of the Sacred Rock, Temple of the
Three Windows, the Mausoleum, etc.
Sufficient time to have lunch (optional)
In the evening, you will return to the Cusco by
means of a train and perhaps a private vehicle from
Ollantaytambo. When you arrive to Cusco, you will be
transferred to your hotel.
