DAY 01: AREQUIPA / TORO MUERTO / COTAHUASI / LUICHO
06:00 hrs – We will start the tour by picking up all the passengers from their respective hotels to then begin the drive out to the canyon.
At about 09:00 hrs – Arrival to Majes to visit the stone murals of the “Dead Bull”
We will have our breakfast for the day and then continue our trip towards Corire, where will have our lunch
Arrival to the Queñuales Forest, which is the natural habitat for a number of endemic species of flora and fauna. These days, a number of them are at risk of extinction.
14:00 hrs – We will visit the Pallarcocha Lake at 4,500 meters. From that point, we will be able to really appreciate the Coropuna Glacier, which towers at 6,425 meters.
We will pass by the place known as Vizca, at 4,400 meters where will be able to see the Vizcachas
We will eventually arrive to the natural lookout at Allhuay, which stands at 3,950 meters and enjoys a marvelous view of the canyon and the Cotahuasi Valley. We will also be able to see the Incaica Citadel of Allhuay.
17:30 hrs (approx)- we will arrive to Cotahuasi and we will go right to our hotel
18:30 hrs – We will be able to go and take a dip in the luscious natural hot springs of Luicho. The water emanates from the warm subsoil. It is very healthy to relax in these waters for periods of time.
After a little while, we will return to the hotel to have a rest for the night.
Dinner in a tourist restaurant at the hot springs. Return to the hotel for the night.
07:30 hrs – Visit the Sipia Waterfalls, where we will be arriving to at just about 08:30 hrs.
We will have a short 10 minute walk, appreciating the constant rainbow that is formed in the mist of the water falling down and splashing off of the rocks below. Truly a beautiful sight to be had. This will also be a real good place to note and appreciate the canyon, which is the deepest in the world at 3,501 meters deep (163 meters deeper than the more famous Colca Canyon). Later on, we will return to the pueblo of Cotahuasi nearby.
Lunch at Cotahuasi
In the afternoon we will visit:
In Collota we will have a chance to see the Incan ruins known as the Little Maucallacta
The pueblo of Taurisma, which has a Spanish church with beautiful and valuable paintings. There are also 2 trees there that are thought to be the oldest in all of Peru. They were planted by the Spaniards.
The pueblos of Tomepampa and Alca, which are extremely old and traditional towns which are still full of colonial artifacts.
Optional: You have the option to return to the Luicho hot springs again if you would like to (2nd entrance not included).
DAY 03: COTAHUASI / AREQUIPA
06:00 hrs - Breakfast
08:00 hrs – We will have a brief visit of the pueblo of Cotahuasi, visiting along the way:
Chipito, the hanging bridge which is known by the townspeople as the “bridge of the disappointed”
The Lookout, from here you will be able to notice the beautiful array of colors produced by the foliage
The Bell tower, which is built into a large stone. The bronze bell itself though is quite ancient
09:30 hrs – We will depart in the direction of the Arequipa. On the way, we will make some stops at some sites that we were unable to see on the way there. Places like Umahuarco, a site that was used for punishing unruly Incas
We will be arriving back to the city again at about 20:00 hrs. Transfer to your hotel.
