07:00 hrs – We start the tour by heading to the
traditional pueblos of Paucarpata and Sabandia, where we
will enjoy some amazing natural scenery and waterfalls.
Also, we will be able to see the ancient windmill of
Sabandia, which has existed since the mid 16th
century. Moving on, we will continue on to the pueblos
of Characato and Quequeña, where we will walk around the
town to have guided tours. We will visit the stone
carvings of Kurslaca.
A bit later, we will go on a 20 minute walk to visit
Sonccomarca, where will be rewarded with some lovely
panoramic views of some remarkable Terraces constructed
into the mountainside. We will then visit the Martyrs of
Queqeña Museum. The oldest of all of the pueblos that we
will visit today is Sogay, which is a very distinctive
little pueblo with beautiful cobblestone roads and white
sillar buildings. Sillar is the white volcanic rock that
is used on the majority of the center of Arequipa,
giving it the distinctive white look. Just above the
pueblo, we will have a chance to visit some picturesque
waterfalls, which is surrounded by typical flora and
fauna. We will rest there and have our snack before
returning to the pueblo to have our typical lunch for
the day. We will return to the city around 3 in the
afternoon.
