To cross the Colca Valley is an interminable
sequence of surprises: its’ people, important
archaeological sites, pre-Inca terraces, cactus’,
churches, beautiful landscapes, typical Andean
birds, traditional clothing, etc. The nature there
jumps out at you and makes you feel its greatness,
presenting the immense Colca Canyon to you, with all
of its 3,400 meters of depth and more than 100 km of
lengthy. All of it is the domain of the majestic
Andean Condor; the mystical symbol of Andean life.
DAY 01:
03:00 - 04:00 - Pickup all of the passengers from
their respective hotels.
04:30
– We will depart in a shared tourist transport and
drive for 5 hours until we arrive to the Cruz del
Condor lookout point. From there, we will be able to
appreciate the elegant flight of the large condors
and we will also bask in the views of the deep
canyon and the river far below. Afterwards we will
continue to the pueblo of Cabanaconde, where we will
have our lunch for the day around noon.
We will continue trekking, descending for about 3.5
hours, to get to the Colca River in the center of
the valley. We will take a break to rest there by
the river. We will still have to trek a bit further
though, continuing on to the first hanging bridge of
the zone, to then arrive to the pueblo, San Juan de
Chuccho. That is where we will spend the night, in
some typical style bungalows which are owned by the
local townspeople. The guide will take care of the
dinner for the group.
DAY
02:
After breakfast, we will begin trekking again for
another 3 hours. Along the way we will visit some
pueblos along the way: Malata (which has a Museum)
and Cosñirhua. We will be able to learn from the
townspeople about their history and way of life.
12:00 hrs – Around midday, we will arrive to the
place known as Oasis where we enjoy the swimming
pools and the general beauty and quietness of the
area. That night we will spend the night in typical
bungalows.
DAY
03:
05:00 hrs - Breakfast at the Oasis
06:00 hrs – We will again start to trek, this time
ascending for 3 and a half hours to get back out of
the valley again. We will eventually arrive to the
traditional pueblo of Cabanaconde. That is where we
will take a bus to return to Chivay again, making
tourist stops along the way.
12:30 hrs – Arrival to Chivay, plenty of time to go
to the Calera Hot Springs. We will have lunch at a
tourist restaurant in Chivay.
14:30 hrs – Begin the return trip to Arequipa.
Transfer to your hotel upon arrival.
